Is access different in Sumner and Redcliffs?
It can be. These seaside suburbs sit where the Port Hills meet the coast, so you get two kinds of home. Houses on the flat near the beach or main road are usually easy. Houses up the hillside streets can be the tricky ones.
My machine is a Hydramaster Boxxer 318 truck-mount, which stays in the van. The hoses run inside from where I park, and they reach roughly 45 m. So the question is always: can the van park close enough to a door, with a tap nearby?
What should I tell you when I book?
A short description saves us both time:
- Whether the van can use your driveway, or will need to park on the street.
- Roughly how far it is from that spot to the nearest door, and how many steps.
- Where your outside tap is.
- Whether the street is narrow, so I can plan not to block it.
A photo taken from the street usually answers all of that at once.
Do split-level homes take longer?
A little. Hillside houses are often built over several levels, with short flights of carpeted stairs between them. Each flight is cleaned step by step, and I plan the order so you can still get out of the house without walking on damp carpet.
What happens if the van can’t get close enough?
I’ll tell you before booking, not on the day. For some homes, especially upper-level flats, I can offer a low-moisture clean instead. It’s a lighter clean, so it suits carpet in fair condition. The carpet cleaning methods compared guide explains the difference.
What carpets do I find in seaside homes?
Many established homes in Sumner and Redcliffs have good wool carpet in bright, sunny living areas. Wool cleans beautifully but needs wool-safe products and care not to over-wet it. See wool carpet cleaning and the wool carpet care guide.
Homes near the beach also get sand walked in. Vacuuming the entry areas well before I arrive helps the clean go further.
Do you clean rugs on timber floors?

Can you park on a narrow hillside street?
Often, yes, as long as there’s a safe spot that doesn’t block the road. If parking is tight, tell me and I’ll plan the visit around it. Sometimes a neighbour’s driveway or a nearby wider spot works, with permission.
My tap is at the back of the house. Is that OK?
Usually. The water hose can run around the house. If there’s no outside tap at all, I can often connect to an indoor tap with an adapter. It just takes a bit more setting up.
Do you clean upstairs flats with no road access?
If the hoses can’t reach, a low-moisture clean may be an option. It’s lighter than hot water extraction, so it won’t suit heavy soiling or pet urine. I’ll tell you honestly which fits.
Is a wool rug safe to clean on site?
