What do family homes in Avonhead and Burnside usually need?
Avonhead and Burnside are on the airport side of the city, out towards Russley Road, with lots of established family homes and good-sized sections. In homes like these the carpet takes a beating from school shoes, sports gear, snacks on the couch and pets coming in from the garden.
The usual list looks like this:
- Traffic lanes from the back door to the kitchen and lounge.
- Food and drink spills, juice, milk and the odd felt pen.
- Pet accidents, sometimes in places you didn’t know about.
- A family-room couch that needs freshening up.
How do I deal with pet urine?
Urine is one of the trickiest jobs in carpet cleaning, so I follow a set process rather than just spraying a deodoriser on top:
- I use a UV torch to find hidden spots, including old ones.
- I pre-spray and hot water extract the area first. That also clears residue from any products you’ve already tried.
- I check the area, then apply a urine treatment matched to the carpet (a wool-specific product on wool).
- A hot water extraction rinse follows, repeated if needed. A deodoriser and antimicrobial treatment are included as standard.
I can’t promise every odour will go. If an area has been soaked many times, the urine may have reached the underlay, and replacing the underlay is sometimes the honest answer. My pet urine and odour treatment page explains the options, and the pet urine carpet guide covers what to do before I arrive.
Are the products safe for kids and pets?
Yes. I use wool-safe products that are safe around children and pets, the same ones I use in my own home. Keep little ones and animals off the damp carpet while it dries, and I’ll give you guidance on the day.
What about spills and everyday marks?
Many come out well. Some, like dyed drinks or felt pen that has sat for a while, may only lighten. I tell you before I start rather than surprising you afterwards. See stain treatment.
Can you clean the couch on the same visit?
Yes. Fabric couches, armchairs and mattresses can all be done in one visit with the carpet. See upholstery cleaning.
Which suburbs near Avonhead and Burnside do I cover?
Ilam, Russley, Harewood, Bishopdale, Bryndwr, Yaldhurst and Upper Riccarton are all nearby, and I cover the rest of Christchurch too.
Frequently asked questions
Can you find where the cat has been going?
Often, yes. A UV torch shows up many urine spots that you can’t see in normal light, and I mark them before treatment.
Will the urine smell definitely go?
I can’t promise that. Light or recent accidents often respond well. Heavy, repeated soaking can reach the underlay, and then replacing the underlay may be the only real fix.
Do the kids and pets need to be out of the house?
Not necessarily, but it’s easier if they stay out of the rooms I’m working in and keep off the damp carpet afterwards.
Can you get crayon or playdough out?
Sometimes fully, sometimes it only lightens. Send a photo and I’ll tell you honestly what to expect.
How do I get a quote?
Text the address and number of rooms for a standard clean, plus photos of any stains, pet areas or upholstery. Your price is confirmed before work starts.
