Carpet Cleaning in Cashmere and the Port Hills

Yes, I clean carpets in Cashmere and on the Port Hills. Hillside homes can be harder to reach with a truck-mount, so I check access with you before booking rather than finding out on the day.

Why do hill homes need an access check first?

My cleaning machine is a Hydramaster Boxxer 318 truck-mount. It stays in the van, and the hoses run from the van into the house. They reach roughly 45 m, and I need to park near an entrance with an outside tap close by.

On the flat that’s rarely an issue. On the slopes of Cashmere and the wider Port Hills, a few things can get in the way:

  • Steep driveways that a loaded van can’t safely use.
  • Homes that sit well below or above the street, with long paths or steps.
  • Narrow, winding roads with little room to park.
  • Shared right-of-ways serving several houses.

How do I check access?

The easiest way is a couple of photos: one of the driveway or street from where a van would park, and one showing the path to the front door. Tell me roughly how far it is from the road to the door and whether there are steps. If it’s unclear, I can come and look for bigger jobs. That way we both know before the day whether the hoses will reach.

What if the hoses can’t reach?

I’ll tell you straight. In some cases I can offer a low-moisture clean instead. It’s a lighter clean than hot water extraction, so it suits carpet that’s in fair condition rather than heavily soiled. If neither option will do a good job, I’d rather say so than take the booking.

The carpet cleaning methods guide explains the difference between the two methods.

What carpets are common in hill homes?

Many Cashmere and Port Hills homes are established houses with good-quality wool carpet, and some have big living areas with lots of glass. Wool needs wool-safe products and care not to over-wet it, which is how I clean it. See wool carpet cleaning. For general carpet, the full process is on my hot water extraction page.

Can you clean upholstery up here too?

Yes, and couches and mattresses need the same access check as the carpet because the same hoses are used. See upholstery cleaning.

Which nearby suburbs do I cover?

Huntsbury, Hillsborough, Westmorland, Beckenham, Somerfield, Murray Aynsley and Heathcote, as well as the rest of Christchurch.

Frequently asked questions

Can you get the van up my driveway?

It depends on how steep and narrow it is. Send a photo from the street and I’ll tell you honestly whether it’s safe or whether I need to park on the road.

My house is below the street with a lot of steps. Will the hoses reach?

Possibly. The hoses reach roughly 45 m from the van. Tell me the approximate distance and number of steps, or send photos, and I’ll check before booking.

Is the low-moisture option as good as hot water extraction?

No, it’s a lighter clean. It can freshen carpet in fair condition, but heavy soiling, pet urine and deep stains need hot water extraction.

Do you need my outside tap?

Yes, I need an outside tap near where the van parks. If yours is at the back of the house, let me know.

Can you come and look first?

For bigger jobs, yes. For smaller jobs, a few photos of the driveway and entrance are usually enough.
